First United Methodist Church of Fort Collins and UC Health are partnering to provide a forum in which concerns will be addressed and information will be provided that will benefit the general public.

The rate of suicide is increasing dramatically throughout the nation, with Colorado rates coming in as the eighth highest in the nation. In late 2015, here in Fort Collins three children aged 12 and younger who did not know one another took their own lives. (Read Coloradoan Article)
Moved by the deaths of children, the clergy, Children & Family Council, and the new Church and Society Committee have come together to formulate a response grounded in our faith and motivated by the love Christ stirs within us for others.
“Choose Hope” is an interfaith effort to raise awareness and provide information about suicide, and connect people with resources and support networks.
We are partnering with the Interfaith Council of Fort Collins, UCHealth (http://www.healthykidsclub.org and over 30 mental health care and social services providers through the NOCO Youth Suicide Prevention Coalition.

The Coalition meets at 9:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at Fort Collins Police Services, 2221 S. Timberline Road, Fort Collins
In cooperation with UCHealth and NOCO-YSPC, we will offer a major regional conference about suicide awareness and prevention this fall. The Rev. Dr. Leanne Hadley, nationally known for her groundbreaking approach for working with at risk children, will be the faith-based keynote speaker.
A second keynote speaker from the mental health provider community will also be featured, as well as breakout sessions that may focus on suicide in populations such as: seniors, active military and veterans, blue collar men, and other at risk groups in our area.
The conference will be held at 1st UMC, Fort Collins, on Friday, Sept 30 (7-9 pm) and Saturday, October 1 (9 am – 4 pm).
