A Message from Rev. Brad ...

God is at work through First United Methodist Church and I am grateful to join you as we live the teachings of Jesus— love, acceptance, justice, and hope. I look forward to experiencing and sharing in the reasons you call this congregation home. The opportunity to serve alongside a congregation that believes in making a difference in the community, creating space for all God’s people, and celebrating God’s grace through music and worship warms my heart and stirs my imagination. So where do we begin? I approach that question with humility and openness. My time with you will begin focused on listening, learning, and love.

I am committed to listen. I ask you to join us at the small group gatherings that begin in August. Get togethers, hosted in church member homes, creating space for sharing and relationship. I want to hear from you. What do you love about this place? When is our congregation at its best? Questions like these, and the conversations that follow, will help me hear what matters to you and listen for all of the ways the Spirit is at work.

I need to learn. First Church is busy! There is a lot happening. There are so many amazing people on staff and in leadership. There is an incredible history in this congregation and community. There are people and stories to learn from. I recognize that I am joining a ministry already in progress and that is best served by coming up to speed with what is already going on. I cherish the opportunity to ask questions and be curious about all that makes First Church’s ministry what it is. If there are unique perspectives or important stories you have to share with me, I appreciate the chance to learn from them.

I am already falling in love with Fort Collins and cannot wait for the opportunity to fall in love with the congregation. I have been blessed to love each and every appointment I have served. I accepted the Bishop’s invitation to First Church because I know this is a congregation I will love too. In conversations with the Staff Parish Relations team (SPR) and Church Council, I can already feel the shared values and passions Bishop Karen and Rev. Melanie told me would be such a good fit. And so, my heart is open to all that God has in store for us together.

I look forward to joining you in August. Almost a year ago, not expecting an appointment change, I planned my renewal leave for this July. I appreciate the Bishop and SPR’s understanding and encouragement to honor that commitment to myself and my family. I appreciate the staff’s support to care for worship and ministry in July. I appreciate the chance to show up at my best, ready to join you in God’s work every day.

God is at work through First United Methodist Church and I am grateful to join you. In living the teachings of Jesus — love, acceptance, justice, and hope— we claim our part in bringing forth God’s vision for our lives, for our congregation and community, and for the world. I give thanks to call this place our new home.

May you be blessed and be a blessing,

Rev. Bradley Laurvick, Lead Pastor
