Youth Ministry - Come Explore Youth Ministry at FUMC!

Youth are a vital and exciting part of the ministry here at First United Methodist Church. The Youth Program strives to meet the needs of teenagers as they grow in their faith and become more engaged with the United Methodist Church. We offer classes, small groups, events and meetings that strive to push young people to explore the possibilities of faith and the calling of God in their lives.

Get Connected - We offer four exciting opportunities for Youth:
  1. Sunday School Classes
  2. Confirmation
  3. United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)
  4. Youth Circuits – FUMC Small Group Youth Ministry

Sunday School –This Summer we are offering a Class during our 9:15 service for all youth going into 7th-12th grades.  This class will experience “The Gospel According to Disney.”  We will watch parts of classic Disney Animated movies and explore the reflections of faith throughout the Disney catalogue.

Confirmation –Confirmation is an introduction to the Christian faith, history and theology. We explore the foundations of Christianity, the United Methodist tradition and the current church. Many are baptized as infants, their parents promising to raise them in a Christian home and to teach them about faith in God. Confirmation is that time in a young person’s life, regardless of baptism, when they explore the possibility of accepting the Christian faith for themselves. This class is offered once every school year to youth in ninth grade or higher and runs every other week from October through April. This year’s class begins with a parent & youth meeting on Sunday September 17th from 12:00-1:30 p.m. Classes will meet at that same time throughout the year starting October 1st.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) – UMYF meets on Sunday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00. These gatherings are an opportunity to meet other youth, join with old friends and grow closer to God trough worship, singing, games and discussion. This group also participates in retreats, lock-ins, service projects, mission trips, and leading worship for the congregation. We come together to grow in our faith through fellowship, prayer, worship and dialogue. Come and join us for Faith, Fellowship and Fun! Our Fall schedule for UMYF kicks of on Friday September 8th at 8:00 p.m. with a lock-in at the church! Details and the full schedule will be posted below soon!

Youth Circuits - “Youth Circuits” are small groups of youth that gather at a variety of times and frequencies to develop relationships and deepen faith by connecting youth around similar interests.  There are currently six groups being started during the Summer of 2009: Faith’s Kitchen, Faith in Nature, Morning Coffee, Faith and Film, Faith in Action and a Weekly Youth Bible Study.  For information on upcoming meetings and events contact Rev. Joel Kershaw
